Mrs. Gela W. Russell
Thank you for visiting my quaint and cozy little corner of the internet! I have the pleasure of teaching Grade 8 English Academic and Honors courses, here, at Willard Intermediate School. As a Penn State graduate in the areas of Journalism and Spanish, I was able to work as a communications director and writer before venturing into the world of education. Moreover, throughout my college years, I was even on the radio, broadcasting the daily news for 3WZ and "The Lion!" It was FANTASTIC! In addition, I hold a Master of Education degree in Multicultural/Multilingual Education with a concentration in ESOL from George Mason University. I love working with students and watching them discover their areas of interest.
I LOVE all things "English." So, on any given weekend you will find me reading a new book, writing short stories, or using my colored-pens to doodle inspirational quotes. My favorite artist is Frida Kahlo, and I believe that visuals are the key to a great lesson. Cheering for the Nittany Lions is a definite for me; and the fall football season is my favorite time of year--Let's Go State! I'm definitely a sci-fi enthusiast and I secretly dream of being a comic book hero, perhaps "The Girl Flash?"
At the core of everything is my family. My fabulous husband, Darrin, is a former engineer turned physics teacher and football coach. We have two vivacious children, Dakota (14) and Dallas (7). Avid sports fans, they are both heavily involved with sports, which means our week nights and weekends are spent outside; typically on a soccer or football field.
I am starting my tenth year as a teacher, and I couldn't be happier! I look forward to a fabulous school year, Let's Go Wildcats!
