• Welcome to Eighth-Grade English!
    Welcome to English 8!
Hello! My name is Martha Rombach, and I'm thrilled to return for my second year at River Bend! Previously, I spent six years teaching sixth and eighth-grade English at Eagle Ridge in Ashburn. I consider myself incredibly blessed to be your child's English teacher this year. The truth is, I love my job! I am a graduate of James Madison University (go Dukes!) with a B.A. in English and a Studio Art minor.
    The Rombach Family
Who am I? Prior to joining the ranks of middle school teachers, I spent my earlier career as a professional writer in the publishing (People and Yankee magazines) and pharmaceutical (Allergan) industries in New York, Boston, and Richmond.  For the past 19 years, my husband Mike and I have called Leesburg home. We're the proud parents of five fascinating humans, Shelby, Cullen, Bryan, Cady, and Sean, who range in age from 16 to nearly 26. Downtime for me includes getting lost between the pages of an irresistible book, hiking a rocky trail that promises breathtaking views, or rumbling down gravel backroads in my top-down Jeep (music blaring, of course). I'm also a HUGE Pittburgh Steelers fan!
What's my classroom like? Energized. Inclusive. Engaging. Collaborative. You'll find my classroom is uptempo, equal parts light-hearted and serious, and a place where physical movement, peer interaction, and technology all play a significant role in your child's academic success. Lucky for us, every River Bend student will be issued a Chromebook this year--and there'll be an iPad cart stationed in my room, too. In addition to the electronic tools, you'll find this classroom buzzes with reading, writing, discussion, creativity, collaboration, analysis, feedback, and reflection.
Communication matters. As a working mom, I know firsthand how vital communication is between parents, teachers, and students. Assignments are posted both in Google Classroom and Phoenix. I promise to do my very best to keep you "in the loop." That said, we're a team. You or your student may email me anytime for any reason at martha.rombach@lcps.org. Expect to hear back from me in 24 hours or less. If you don't, kindly contact the front office at 571-434-3220. While I work hard to keep atop of emails, every now and then one slips by. Please try again...or call the office. I ALWAYS want my communication to be timely and attentive.
Let's have a splendiferous year together! Thank you for sharing your incredible young people with me.
