    Hello,

I cannot believe it is nearly the end of the year.  Time has flown for me since December when I started as the principal here at Heritage, and I have enjoyed every minute of it.  It has been another successful year at Heritage, and I want to say thank you to each of you for all of your support for your child’s academics.  We are not truly a school community without a strong bond between school and home.

As we wrap up the year, we take time to celebrate the many accomplishments of our students at Heritage.  4.0 Night will be on Wednesday, May 9th.  Invitations have already gone out.  Our Annual Awards Ceremony this year will be held on Monday, June 4 at 9:00 am.  The whole school will be in attendance to honor achievement in academics and athletics, as well as to celebrate the accomplishments of the senior class.  Finally, on Sunday, June 10 at 7:30 in the Pride Athletic Stadium, Heritage High School will bestow diplomas on the Seniors of the Class of 2012.

I want to say thank you to our PTSO board and non-board officers from this year:  Kathleen Castro, Donna Torraca, Nikki Holton, Ann Smith, Rose Erdelyi, Val Bideganeta, Pam Hunter, Cheryl Wertz, and Davette Everly-Gill and Eva Weitzel.  I really appreciate the countless ways they have supported the school, the teachers, and the students of HHS.

If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, our Project Graduation party is desperately in need of volunteers-parents and students.  Project Graduation provides a safe, alcohol-free and drug-free place for graduating seniors to go after graduation.  The party is Sunday night, June 10th, beginning at 11:00 pm and lasts all night.  Volunteers will run games, take tickets, or fill one of the many other jobs at an event like this.  Project Graduation also runs a concession stand during graduation.  It’s a lot of fun and helps out a great cause.  They need help from 7 am on Sunday, June 10th through the end of the party at 4 am on Monday morning.  Volunteers can sign up in shifts.  Any help you can give is appreciated.   Please email Gloria Bradley (success4me@gmail.com)or Margie Brien (mrscupper@verizon.net) if you are interested.  There is a meeting for volunteers and anyone interested in helping out with on Wednesday, May 16th at 6:00 pm.  We hope to see you there.

I need your help to make Heritage an even better school.  As part of my principal’s evaluation, I am asking you to take a few minutes and fill out a survey.  You can access the survey by clicking here or by pasting https://www.research.net/s/HTH_Parent_2012 into your web browser.  I use feedback created from this survey to make improvements at the school.  The survey will be open from May 7-May 25.  If you or someone you know needs a paper copy of the survey, you can get one from the main office at Heritage.  Please have it back to Heritage by May 25.

As we finish this great year in Pride history, please join me in congratulating our graduating seniors.  Graduation is the culmination of 13 years of education.  It’s why we do what we do.  I have so enjoyed getting to know the seniors this year and know that great things lie ahead of them.

    Kudos

Congratulations to our students who were recognized at the 10th District Congressional Art Show.  We are so proud of these students and their impressive artwork:

    · Daniel Torraca-Honorable Mention, Computer-Generated Art

    · Jennie Xie-Honorable Mention, Mixed Media

    · Matt Perkins-Honorable Mention, Photography

    · Grace Manser-1st Place, Printmaking

    · Elvia Navarro-3rd Place, Printmaking

Congratulations to the Heritage Odyssey of the Mind Team who placed first at States in their contest and will be travelling to compete in the Odyssey of the Mind World Competition May 27-28 in Ames, Iowa.  The students are Aditi Narvekar-9th grade, Teresa Nowalk-9th grade, Rebecca D'Alessandro-9th grade, and Alyssa Davis-9th grade.  Harshitha Narayana, a 9th Grade from  Loudoun County High School is also on the team.   The team is coached by Suparn  Narvekar (Head Coach) and Richard D'Alessandro (Assistant Coach).  We are so excited for them and know they will represent Heritage well at the competition.

A big thank you from the Heritage Community to Ms. Colleen Dobbs, Ms. Whitney Loy and the SCA for a great Awareness Week at Heritage, April 30-May4.  Topics for the week included Cancer Awareness, the Environment, Drunk and Distracted Driving, Stress Awareness, and improving self esteem.  We welcomed speaker Bobby Petrocelli who reminded the students that they all matter and they should make decisions knowing that.  Thanks, SCA, for all you do!

Huge Kudos as well to our Junior class and their sponsors, Valerie Hargis and Michelle Laferriere!  Prom was Friday, May 4th, and the hard work they put in was evident.  It was a lovely dance and the Seniors were appreciative.  The class of 2013 has a lot to live up to next year.

Thank you to Brenda Gottlieb, our testing coordinator, who works many, many hours behind the scenes to take care of the testing requirements for our students.  SOL testing truly is a school effort, but Mrs. Gottlieb’s hours of preparation make things run smoothly.

    Roar PRIDE!
