Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Jackie Baker
Welcome Horizon Families to the 2017-2018 school year! My name is Jackie Baker and this is my second year teaching part-time at Horizon as an EL teacher. When not at Horizon, I work at a private preschool (Classroom of Discovery) where I have been the director and a preschool teacher for the last fifteen years.
I was born in Oregon and grew up in Alaska. I moved to Virginia in 1993 where I have lived for over twenty years. In that time, I also spent a year abroad living in Belgium where I traveled extensively through Europe and parts of Asia and learned a lot about other cultures and languages. I currently live in the Sterling area with my husband, three children and our darling dog Fergie.
I received my Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks with a concentration in Early Childhood Education. I completed my graduate studies at George Mason University and received a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an endorsement in ESL. In 2017, I completed the Aim4Excellence™ Early Childhood National Director Credential program at National Louis University.
I have been teaching in private and public school settings for over twenty years and have worked with all elementary grade levels. However, most of my teaching career has been spent teaching preschool, kindergarten and first grade.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work at Horizon with such a unique and culturally diverse population of students and know that we will learn a lot working together.
