I am delighted serve as the School Social Worker at Smart's Mill, Balls Bluff, and Frances Hazel Reid this school year. I have been in the field of education for over twenty years. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Education from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and completed my Master of Social Work degree at Widener University. I taught Spanish in grades K - 12 at schools in Pennsylvania and worked as a bilingual therapist in outpatient mental health and adolescent residential treatment prior to moving to Virginia in 2014. I worked at Smart's Mill as a Spanish teacher before joining the Student Support Services team. Although I've worked in various schools and settings, I absolutely love being a Maverick and am looking forward to supporting and empowering students to reach their academic and social goals.
School Social Work services are varied and may include sociocultural assessments, group or individual counseling using evidence based curriculum to promote resiliency and skills development, case management and referral, restorative practice circles and conferences, and mental health/substance use presentations.
