Ms. Monica L. Mitchell

I am delighted to be teaching science at Brambleton. I am a career switcher, with endorsements in science and English at the middle and high school level. Prior to classroom teaching, I worked on the education policy side in various organizations to link schools with informal science centers, to create better opportunities for migrant farmworker children, and to study science learning in other countries. One of my favorite jobs was managing a crater lake conservation center in southwestern Uganda as a Peace Corps volunteer!

I am from the MD-DC-Northern VA area originally, but have lived in rural places around the U.S., most recently upstate New York. In my free time, I am usually hanging out with my twins (Mikhaela and Jeremiah) who are high schoolers. I also love spending time outside (hiking, swimming), writing creatively, and learning how to weave. My goal for the year is to create a dynamic and safe learning environment so that students can be daring, inquisitive, and joyful on their middle school journeys!
