Miss Kelsey Lauritzen

Miss Lauritzen is a proud night owl, graduated from Western Governors University. This school year, 2020-2021, will be her 4th year teaching- all of them have been spent as a Park View Patriot. This year is different and exciting as all teachers forge new lessons and navigate ever-shifting educational models in response to the global pandemic. Fortunately for Miss Lauritzen, she loves a good challenge!

Before graduating with a teaching degree, Miss Lauritzen worked as a teacher's assistant in many different educational settings. She has experience teaching kids at summer camps and in community and self-contained special education schools. Also, she has worked with adults with cognitive disabilities in their homes and community settings.

Functional communication is a strong passion of hers. Using a Total Communication philosophy, Miss Lauritzen models, listens, and watches for all types of communication. Students will be exposed to basic American Sign Language, AAC devices, gestures, pictures, and written words while learning. Behavior- both positive and negative- is communication and will be considered and taught within her classes, with the intention to strengthen communication skills of every student.

Building communicative relationships and functional life skills are the foundation of Miss Lauritzen's teaching and case management style. Supporting transition age students, especially those who are returning graduates, motivates her to assure that all students have skills necessary to become productive and fulfilled members within their household and community.
