My name is Kristi Schmalz and I teach 10A and 10H here at Freedom High School. Although this is my first year at Freedom, I am not new to teaching. This is my 13th year as I formerly taught English at Westfield High School in Fairfax County. I am so excited to be at Freedom!
I have my BA and MEd from the University of Virginia, and I am currently pursuing a second Master's degree in Administration and Supervision (I'll be a Triple Hoo!). I am married to my husband, Chip, and we have two crazy and sweet two-year-old twin sons, Cole and Tanner. I also love to run and have some pretty exciting races coming up (Richmond Marathon, Shamrock Whale Challenge in March - 8K plus Marathon, the LoCo Challenge, and the Richmond Ragnar Trail Ultra). I absolutely love teaching, and I especially love teaching high school students and pushing myself and my students to be the best versions of ourselves. I also love reading and writing and sharing those passions with my students.

I will regularly Tweet class updates and share what we are doing in class.
I extensively utilize Google Classroom, so PLEASE ask your student to show you what we are doing there.
I hold office hours every Tuesday and Thursday morning starting at 8:30 a.m. for students who need help with reading, writing, or need to makeup work. Please stop by!
