Professional BiographyFoster, ElizabethEnglish Department Greetings! I look forward to a wonderful 2019-2020 academic year. This is my third year at Briar Woods, but my tenth year teaching high school English.
I hold a B.A. with a double major in English and Classical Civilization from the University of Mary Washington (formerly Mary Washington College) and completed my teaching licensure coursework at the University of Virginia (UVA). I also earned my M.Ed. in Educational Psychology at UVA in 2011, and have pursued additional graduate level coursework in International Commerce and Policy at George Mason University (GMU). Currently, I am working on an M.Ed. at UVA in Educational Administration and Supervision. As a dedicated lifelong learner myself, I look forward to joining you on your own educational journey as we explore the world of literature, writing, and research.
Before teaching, I worked for six years in college administration, advising freshmen, transfer, and study abroad students at institutions both in the U.S. and abroad. I have presented at conferences on college level advising and given workshops on technology and curriculum. While I enjoyed my pursuits at the collegiate level, I much prefer working with students in the classroom. You are why I'm here! I want to see you learn and grow. I love your curiosity, your creativity, and your diversity. I love learning from you as much as I love teaching you.
As you can see, my interests are very diverse - I even enjoy (some) math - but the common thread throughout my professional life is that I have dedicated myself to cultivating the interests and talents of others.
I have been married for seventeen years to my best friend, and we have an eleven-year-old son and a four-year-old daughter. In my "spare time" (let's all take a moment to laugh), I love to travel, read, and binge-watch Netflix. We all have our guilty pleasures!
I look forward to working with you and your parents to help you set goals and acheive them!
