I am Mercedes Kersey and I am honored and humbled to be selected to work for the beautiful Frederick Douglas Elementary School.  

I earned my Masters Degree from Saint Joseph's University in Special Education.  I received a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from Holy Family College.  I am highly qualified in math, language arts, social studies, and science.

I currently have 21 years experience as a teacher.  I taught elementary school for eleven years, middle school for two years, and high school for eight years.

As a teacher, it's my job to help your child discover his or her individuality and work alongside with them to reach thier fullest potential.  I believe in hands-on experiences and teaching my students how to bring out the creativity within each child.  

It is my goal to create a community of learners who are committed to working hard and having fun.  I want students to feel valued, cared for, and confident that they can apply what they've learned in school to real life situations.  Also, I want my students to feel challenged and to have an enhanced passion for learning.

In my leisure time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, or just lounging by the pool reading a book or listening to music.
