Mrs. Baker graduated from Tennessee Technological University with a bachelor's degree in English/Journalism. She spent more than 20 years in the newspaper industry, primarily in Northern Virginia. Her background includes sports reporter and editor, news reporter and editor, designer, and production director. She has won several Virginia Press Awards, including a best in state for front page design. 

She received her teaching license from Shenandoah University.
