Mrs. Hanna

Mrs.Hanna is thrilled to be a part of the Frederick Douglass Elementary family!  She began her career as a substitute teacher, teacher assistant, and later a lead teacher in the self-contained classroom with children with disabilities. Ms. Hanna was an active volunteer for 10 years with faith-based community services supporting newcomers to the States and taught life skills to incarcerated troubled youth for Fairfax County Judicial Center. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and holds a Masters degree in Special Education in the K-12 general curriculum from George Mason University.  She is also certified to teach ELL (English Language Learners) K-12. Mrs. Hanna is trained in voice output communication systems such as the Proloquo2 and LAMP for her non-verbal students. Mrs. Hanna uses the principles of ABA in her classroom and holds each one of her students to high standards. Mrs. Hanna is married with 3 boys and has been living in the town of Leesburg for almost 20 years! We welcome Mrs. Hanna's enthusiasm and warmness to our shining stars family.
