Mrs. Akers

Hello, Wolfpack!

I am so excited to be at Trailside Middle School for a third year as one of the sixth grade Math Special Education teachers.  I grew up not too far from here in the Shenandoah Valley and earned both my Bachelor of Science (Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies) and Master of Education (Exceptional/Special Education) degrees from James Madison University.  Go Dukes!!  In 2017, I achieved National Board Certification.  It is hard to believe, but this will be my sixteenth year of teaching.  I began my career in Warren County as a general education teacher before switching to special education and have worked with all grade levels from kindergarten through sixth.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I am blessed to be married to my best friend and we have the most adorable, amazing son ever - who turned three over the summer!  I also enjoy visiting new places, eating delicious food, and squeezing in a good workout whenever possible (to help offset that delicious food!).

I look forward to working with Trailside's students, families, and staff again this year.  By working together as a team, we will see our students grow as human beings and as learners to do amazing things!  We are capable of so much more than we believe ourselves to be!
