Degrees and Certifications:

Bachelor of Science Master of Education National Board Certified Teacher

Mrs. Akers

Hello, Wolf Pack!

I am so excited to be at Trailside Middle School for my fifth year as a sixth grade Instructional Specialist.  I grew up not too far from here in the Shenandoah Valley and earned both my Bachelor of Science (Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies) and Master of Education (Exceptional/Special Education) degrees from James Madison University.  Go Dukes!!  In 2017, I achieved National Board Certification in the area of Exceptional Education.  It's hard for me to believe, but this will be my eighteenth year of teaching!  I began my career in Warren County as a general education teacher before switching to special education and have worked with all grade levels from kindergarten through sixth.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I am blessed to be married to my best friend and we have the most adorable, amazing kids (though I may be a little biased!) - Grayson, who turned five over the summer and will be in kindergarten this year, and Addilynn, who will turn 1 at the end of September.  When time allows, I also enjoy visiting new places, eating delicious food, and going for a nice walk whenever possible.

I look forward to working with Trailside's students, families, and staff again this year as we get a fresh start for the new school year.  Middle school is such a special time and I want to help make my students' first year out of elementary school be the best that it can be in all aspects.  By working together, we will see our students grow as human beings and as learners to do amazing things.

Let's spread kindness and make this a great year!  Let the journey begin!
