Mrs. Akers

Hello, Wolfpack!

I am so excited to be at Trailside Middle School for a second year as the sixth grade Math Special Education teacher.  I grew up not too far from here in the Shenandoah Valley and earned both my Bachelor of Science (Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies) and Master of Education (Exceptional/Special Education) degrees from James Madison University.  Go Dukes!!  In 2017, I achieved National Board Certification.  It is hard to believe, but this will be my fifteenth year of teaching.  I began my career in Warren County as a general education teacher before switching to special education and have worked with all grade levels from kindergarten through sixth.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I am blessed to be married to my best friend and we have the most adorable, amazing son ever - who turned two over the summer!  I also enjoy visiting new places, eating delicious food, and squeezing in a good workout whenever possible (to help offset that delicious food!).

I look forward to working with Trailside's students, families, and staff again this year.  By working together as a team, we will see our students grow as human beings and as learners to do amazing things!  We are capable of so much more than we believe ourselves to be!  Go Timber Wolves!
