Welcome, Newton – Lee Families!!
I am honored and excited to serve Newton – Lee Elementary School as an assistant principal! It is such a pleasure spending every day with an amazing group of students and a dedicated, inspiring group of teachers here at Newton – Lee! I am passionate about teaching and learning, and I am eager to see our students learn and grow, overcome obstacles, and soar with success.
I was born and raised in South Korea, but I came to the United States almost thirty years ago when my family decided to immigrate. Learning a new language and adjusting to a new culture was adventurous and challenging, especially starting high school in a totally new environment. In 1992, I received my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia and my Master of Arts in Education with specialties in teaching learning disabilities and reading from Regent University in 1994. In 2011, I acquired a National Board Teacher Certification in Literacy - Reading and Language Arts. In August 2016, I received a post graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership and Administration from George Washington University.
This is my 13th year in LCPS, but this will be my 23rd year in education. In the previous years, I taught K - 12 in North Carolina and Virginia as a special education teacher and reading specialist. Many students, parents, and colleagues have touched my life and inspired me to become a better educator. Fortunately, during those years, I was honored as a Teacher of the Year at an elementary school and Reading Teacher of the Year at a middle school. In addition, I was featured in a school district’s magazine as one of the highly effective teachers.
I am truly humbled and blessed by this incredible opportunity! I am looking forward to working with teachers, students, parents, and all stakeholders to achieve one goal: to help each student to discover their own strengths, reach their fullest potential, and become a world changer!
Currently, I live in Ashburn with my husband and son. I love spending time with my family, exploring new places, hiking, watching football, hanging out at the beach, and reading!
