I am a wife, a mother of two, the second eldest sister of 6 siblings, and the Auntie of 12 nieces and nephews. Yes, I do big families! So, I am happy to be a part of the large family and community here at Buffalo Trail Elementary. I am originally from southern Virginia from a small town you probably have never heard of (LaCrosse,VA for postal purposes). I attended VCU, where I earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Art Education. I was immediately hired in 2000 by Fairfax County public schools, where I taught grades K-6 for the next 15 years.

I believe that as an art educator, I am responsible for helping students to develop and grow their imagination and creativity. I am a facilitator and guide to creative expressions. My job is to inspire and empower students to dive in, think, feel, and problem solve like artists.

I strive to provide all students with skills and knowledge that lead to art production, appreciation, communication and an ability to make connections with art, other academic areas of study, and their own day to day lives. I believe all students are capable of self-expression through art exploration and study.

I will present curriculum based lessons that will incorporate different learning styles such as hands-on learning, cooperative learning, projects, themes, and individual work that engage and activate students learning.

Art education extends way beyond drawing or painting a picture. It is a mindset that says, “anything is possible”, that approaches problems with a “what ways can I do it attitude”, and includes a sight line that sees no boundaries.
