Luke Black is very honored to be the choral insructor here at Riverside High School! Mr. Black holds a Bachelor of Music with a certification in Vocal and Instrumental Music from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. While at JMU, Mr. Black studied voice under Professor David Newman and choral conducting under Dr. Jo-Anne van der Vat-Chromy and Dr. Bryce Hayes.
This is Mr. Black's second year at Riverside and also his second year with Loudoun County Public Schools. Mr. Black joins RVHS after two years at Broadway High School in Rockingham County, Virginia. While at Broadway, Mr. Black's choirs focsued on engaging, multi-cultural, and emotionally relevant performances. The choir department at BHS strived to be a positive force in the school community and Mr. Black looks forward to bringing that energy to RVHS. Students in Mr. Black's choirs consistently placed into All-District, All-State, and Senior Honors Choirs.
While vocal music is Mr. Black's forte, he also greatly enjoys playing the piano, saxophone, and guitar as well. While at JMU, Mr. Black was a member of Virginia's Finest, The James Madison University Marching Royal Dukes in which he marched saxophone and served as a Section Leader. During his time as an "MRD", Mr. Black had the amazing experience of marching in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, as well as being present for the JMU football team's historic defeat of Virginia Tech!
Mr. Black is so very excited to be a part of the Riverside Community and can't wait to make amazing memories at RVHS!
