March is Multi-Cultural Month at Harper Park Middle School, a time when we celebrate and focus on our individual family cultures. Each American is a product of different ethnic, racial, religious and cultural heritages. Our diversity is what makes us strong! In March, we will be having "Thoughts for the Day" during morning announcements that promote this theme and students from diverse cultures will present special messages in their native tongues, with translations in English. Bulletin boards, display cases and posters around the school will also be highlighting diversity.

On Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 we will hold our Harper Park Heritage Day Fair and Potluck Dinner. Students and staff are encouraged to wear traditional clothing on that day to celebrate their own cultural heritage.

Individual students or a group of two students can submit a project to the fair through their academic team teachers. Some teachers are assisting students and are awarding extra credit points for participants. Gift certificates to Target or Best Buy will be awarded to the first, second and third place projects in each grade level. The fair, announcement of winners, and public viewing of projects will begin at 4:30 PM and continue until 5:30 PM.

The potluck dinner will be held in the cafeteria from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, and everyone is encouraged to bring your favorite ethnic dish to share with others.   Keep in mind that many people attend, so please bring enough food to share.  The school will provide a variety of soft drinks and plates, cups, napkins and utensils for everyone.

Come on out and join us in CELEBRATING OUR DIVERSITY!
