Hillside Elementary is dedicated to creating a positive learning environment with a research-based approach to discipline called Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS). PBIS is a framework for teaching and positively reinforcing appropriate behavior across all school environments. The goal of PBIS is to reduce challenging student behavior in a proactive, positive, and consistent manner by teaching children to SOAR.
Expectations are set for each school environment with clear and explicit instruction to students, along with common language and practices used by all teachers and staff. PBIS has been remarkably successful in improving academic achievement and social competence across our country and nation.
