Welcome to Tuscarora HS Earth Science or Environmental Science!

I am so excited for the 2023-2024 school year and to help you in your Science career!   We have lots of hands-on activities planned and will jump into what high school and Science is all about!

Earth Science will look at the properties of Earth systems including science methods, measurements and mapping skills.  Specific investigations in Astronomy, Geology, Oceanography, and Meteorology will be covered involving labs and projects.  Class materials and assignments will be posted in Schoology.  Research Earth Science will teach Research skills required to progress in research level classes throughout high school, and will require additional time in research and writing scientific papers.  Earth Science is the foundation and bridge between Middle School and High School science!

Environmental Science will have lots of hands-on, outdoor exploration, researching the interactions between our earth, living things, and humans.   We will study many different areas including water, air, and soil conditions and protections; species interactions including key, invasive, and extinct specimens, and the laws and regulations governing our Environmental activities.  Students will learn field observation techniques, conduct science experiments indoors and outdoors, grow plants and have the opportunity to participate in a field guide journaling program and contest.

I also serve as a THS Co-lead mentor for new staff, helping new personnel build community, positive experiences, and sound teaching!  Along with Mrs Heaver, I serve as a sponsor for the Environmental Club where we have hosted campus clean-up days, courtyard plantings, environmental education events, and the thrifted fashion show.   All students at any grade, are welcome to join the Environmental Club.

I look forward to a great year!
