Ms. Katie Swanson

Welcome to 4th grade!  Katie Swanson is very excited to start her 8th year here at Discovery!

Ms. Swanson went to the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she studied English Literature and Sociology, then to the University of Michigan Law School.  She worked as a lawyer in both New York City and Washington, D.C., but then decided she could make a bigger difference through teaching.  Ms. Swanson taught 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th grade, as well as environmental education, for ten years in Maryland.  She founded after-school environmental clubs at two schools that received both national and international recognition, and started a new after-school environmental club here at Discovery six years ago! 

Ms. Swanson lives right down the road in Broadlands with her husband, son (a rising sophomore at Briar Woods), and two dogs (Cara and Sophie).  In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, spending time outdoors, and cheering on the Michigan Wolverines (Go Blue!).

It’s going to be a wonderful year in 4th grade!
