Welcome to Second Grade!

Hello! My name is Emma Coffey and I am so thrilled to begin my sixth school year at Discovery, and my 13th year as an educator!  I can not wait to meet my newest 2^nd grade Trailblazers and begin the 2023-2024 school year.

I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology from Salisbury University in Maryland.  I spent seven years teaching in the Baltimore suburbs before moving to Northern Virginia.  2nd grade holds a special place in my heart since it is the only grade I have taught; it really is the BEST grade!

My husband and I have two daughters; Piper and Violet, who are also Discovery Trailblazers.  This year they will be 6th and 4th grade.  We have a giant labradoodle puppy; Henry Hashbrown, and love to go on adventures together! My daughters play field hockey and soccer, so most of our weekends are spent on the field. I also love to read and play board games.

I am beyond excited about beginning our school year and meeting my newest class. It is always my goal to create a learning environment where every student feels welcome and safe to learn and explore.  Partnerships with both students and families are my top priority and I cannot wait to begin our school year together!
