Mrs. Samantha Hill

Welcome to my Potomac Falls staff page!  I’m beyond thrilled to be a Panther, and I look forward to another fun-filled year of learning!  I truly believe the best job on the planet is teaching.  This is my fifteenth year in the classroom after having graduated from Virginia Tech in 2002 (Bachelor's) and 2007 (Master's); Go, Hokies!

Updated May 1, 2020:

All class information is located on the class specific Google Classroom site.  All work can be found by "week" on the classwork tab.

Per the county, English 9 and 10 are using Edmentum as a platform for fourth quarter learning.  This program can be found through LCPS GO.  If it doesn't log in the first time, try again.  It will automatically log students in.

Google Meets will be on Mondays (Except for the week of Memorial Day; we will meet Wednesday, May 27).  I have scheduled a "Remind" for each Google Meet if you utilize that form of communication.

The Google Meet link is posted on Google Classroom the day of the meet both on the front page header and as an icon on the classroom tab.

Google Meeting Times:

Block 1 = 9:15am to 9:45am

Block 3 = 10:45am to 11:15am

Block 4 = 11:30am to Noon

Block 6 = 1:30 pm to 2:00pm

Block 8 = 3:00pm to 3:30pm

Guidelines for English for Showing Significant Progress for Fourth Quarter

  1. In order to be considered for a grade bump, a student needs to have demonstrated mastery, earning an 80% for the “Course Grade” in Edmentum for the unit assigned in his class.
  2. If a student is trying to improve a grade that was initially higher than 80%, they will need to earn an Edmentum “Course Grade” higher than their course grade as calculated on May 1 in order to be considered for a grade bump.
  3. English teachers may, at their discretion, require a student to make up missing key assignments from Quarters 1-3 in order to be considered for the grade bump. This will differ from class to class and will be considered on a student by student basis.

For any class not using Edmentum (electives, DE, AP, etc.):

  1. To be considered for a Quarter 4 grade bump, a student needs to have completed ALL work assigned by the teacher for the fourth quarter.
  2. The student must have earned an 80% or higher (demonstrating mastery) on the material assigned. This will be noted in Phoenix in the fourth quarter gradebook.
  3. If a student is trying to improve a grade that was initially higher than 80%, they will need to earn a fourth quarter grade higher than their course grade as calculated on May 1 in order to be considered for a grade bump.
  4. English teachers may, at their discretion, require a student to make up missing key assignments from Quarters 1-3 in order to be considered for the grade bump. This will differ from class to class and will be considered on a student by student basis.
