Dr. Tara Woolever

I am thrilled to begin my third year at Trailside Middle School.  I began my teaching career 18 years ago in Frederick County, VA as a social studies teacher.   I believe middle school is a critical juncture in a student’s academic and social history.   Middle school is also a place for students to nurture and grow their love of learning as well as curiosity.

I have a passion for learning and have studied at several local universities.  I love social studies and graduated from Shepherd College with my Bachelors of Arts in Secondary Social Studies Education.  After beginning my teaching career, I became fascinated with educational technology and earned my Masters of Science in Computers in Education from Shenandoah University.   After teaching for a few more years, I realized I was interested in becoming a school leader.   I earned my Masters of Educational Leadership from George Mason University and transitioned from a classroom teacher to a secondary instructional supervisor.  I always had a personal goal to earn my doctorate.  I recently fulfilled my goal and graduated from Shenandoah University with my doctorate in Organizational Leadership.

My family is from Virginia and New York.  My husband and I are the proud parents of two daughters.  Our family is active and can often be found at volleyball or tennis events or at the gym. When we have time to vacation, our favorite place to relax is on the beach at Topsail Island. We also have two dogs, who are just like family to us!  I believe my family has contributed to my success as an educator and I am grateful for their support!

When I’m not at school or with my family, I spend time running and teaching at Shenandoah University.  I believe teaching helps me stay connected to best practices and gives me the opportunity to teach people the way I hope they will teach others in the future.   I look forward to my second year at Trailside Middle School and can’t wait to meet our new pack members!
