Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to art at Hillsboro Charter Academy!
My name is Beth Fuller and this is my 13th year teaching art in Loudoun County. I'm a Loudoun County native having lived here almost all of my life except for three years when I lived in Colorado. I live in Round Hill with my husband, three children, Anna, Jamie and Colin and our rescue puppy, Terra. When I am not illustrating and making my own art, I am coaching for Leesburg Football (soccer) Club, playing soccer on my women's team, reading, hiking, spending time with my family, volunteering and also teaching at the Round Hill Arts Center. I am looking forward to working with all of the Hillsboro artists.
My philosophy for teaching art is to foster a love for art, create a safe enviornment in which to work, allow for personal expression, while also teaching technique and exploring how an artist creates.
This school year 2017-2018, we will be introducing grades 2-5 to Choice Based Art Education or TAB (Thinking for Artistic Behavior). K-1 will be using the traditional art classroom model with visits to the art centers. Art centers will include Drawing, Painting, Collage, Printmaking, Sculpture, Fiber Arts, Weaving and Clay as well as "pop up" art centers which will only be available for limited amounts of time.
Choice Based Art Essential elements:
- The student is the artist
- Students control subject matter, materials, approach
- Student beliefs drive work
- Students are self-motivated
- Experimentation and mistakes are honored
