Make summer count!
Loudoun County Public Library Summer Reading Program 2022
Tales and Trails
June 16 – August 22
This summer, Loudoun County Public Library will be hosting a fun Summer Reading Program for all ages! There will be a community kickoff celebration at 10am on Thursday, June 16 at Dulles Town Center. The celebration will feature Bobby G Pet’s Reptile Encounter (this is similar to Reptiles Alive, which no longer exists but was always a favorite program for kids!) and giveaways. Library staff will be there to help everyone sign up for the Summer Reading Program.
Registration
Registration for LCPL’s summer reading program is online at library.loudoun.gov/srp . Your family will be able to sign up starting on June 16. Everyone who signs up receives a free pass to Great Country Farms! Just stop by the library to pick up your pass after you register for the summer reading program.
Challenges
There are challenges for four different age groups: pre-reader (birth – pre-K), elementary, teen, and adult. Each group has a different set of 16 challenges to complete throughout the course of the summer. Alternatively, participants can either read for 30 minutes or attend a library program. Challenges are tracked on the Summer Reading Program website, but some families like to have a physical challenge card to keep track throughout the summer, so if you would like one of those, just stop by your local library branch to pick up a challenge bookmark and adventure guide. (attached).
Programs
There will be all sorts of fun programs over the summer, happening both at the library and elsewhere in the community. Brambleton Library will have author visits, science programs, crafts, and games throughout the summer, including a Summer Carnival on June 23 from 2-4pm. Musicians, magicians, and storytellers will also be performing at locations around Loudoun, including Dulles South Rec Center, Bush Tabernacle (in Purcellville), Dulles Town Center, with other events at Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve, Aldie Mill, and more. (Below is a list of confirmed performances and locations). All programs will be posted on the library’s calendar of events.
Prizes
Everyone who completes all 16 challenges will be able to pick up a free prize book, a free ticket to a Nationals game, and have their name entered into a raffle for $200 worth of prizes and gift cards. Stop by the library after completing the challenges to pick up your prize book and Nationals ticket.
School Trophy
Compete against other schools by signing up for and completing the SRP program! The school that has the most participation receives a big trophy to display in their library.
