Welcome to the Broad Run Computer Programming club. We meet every Wednesday after school in Room 121
I'm Mr. Rochon, the club sponsor.
There are currently two main areas of focus for the club: CyberPatriot and Programming Competitions. Club members are not limited to only one area of focus.
CyberPatriot:
At the center of CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, which puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. Through a series of online competition rounds, teams are given a set of virtual operating systems and are tasked with finding and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining critical services. Teams are limited to five members, but we can have multiple teams. We will meet for practice sessions on a day that is to be determined, either weekly or once every two weeks. Competitions will be held in school on designated Friday evenings throughout the year as shown in the schedule below, from 4:30PM to 10PM. Food will be provided on competition days.
CyberPatriot schedule:
October 14
November 4
December 9Additionally, for teams that meet a minimum score in the state round on December 9, there is a semifinal round on January 20.
Programming Competitions:
The main programming competition that we participate in is the University of Virginia High School Programming Competition. Dates for the 2023 competition haven't been given yet, but are generally on a saturday in the spring. On Wednesdays, we will practice programming puzzles to prepare for competitions.
