2023 Spring Gifted Evaluation Cycle:
Parents of 3rd - 5th students: The Gifted Education Office has created a video that shares information about this year's spring gifted evaluation cycle. You may find the video by going to the LCPS Gifted and Talented webpage (https://www.lcps.org/Page/211705). Please click the “Notifications” tab to locate the video.
All 3rd grade students are evaluated for gifted services as a part of the LCPS universal evaluation process.
If you would like your 4th or 5th grade student to be evaluated, a completed hard copy of the Permission to Evaluate form must be returned to me by January 20, 2023. Forms returned after this date will not be accepted.
If you have any questions, please contact me at chris.zierk@lcps.org. Thank you!
"We strive to create a positive environment that encourages students to persevere toward becoming independent critical thinkers and global problem solvers."LCPS Gifted Education Program Goals and Services
The following LCPS Gifted Education Program goals provide students from kindergarten through high school with support and structure for finding challenge in the school environment while encouraging students to achieve their maximum potential.
1. To become divergent creative thinkers who recognize problems and solve them.
2. To construct personal meaning and understanding of others and of the world around them.
3. To develop the capacity for self-assessment.
At the elementary level, LCPS provides gifted education services through the following programs:
SEARCH: All kindergarten through third grade students participate in bi-weekly SEARCH lessons within the regular classroom environment.
EDGE: Identified kindergarten through fifth grade students meet in weekly or biweekly small groups.
FUSION: Identified fourth and fifth graders engage in push-in and pull-out enrichment activities in mathematics, language arts, and a thematic unit of study.
