Mrs. Smith is very excited to introduce herself as your child’s ELL Teacher.  This is her third year teaching at Creighton's Corner Elementary.
She grew up in Carson City, Nevada.  Her family moved to San Diego when she was 15.  In San Diego, she met her husband and had 3 daughters.  Her family relocated from San Diego to Ashburn 6 years ago.  She is very happy to be in a family friendly and educational community.
Mrs. Smith completed a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies (K-6 Education) with a Specialization in Mathematics at San Diego State University.  After finishing her degree, she completed her teaching credentials with an endorsement in ELL (English Language Learning) from California State University, San Marcos.
Mrs. Smith worked in the Finance Department for the City of San Marcos. She learned the importance of being proficient in math and finance outside of the classroom.   Her teaching experience includes time as a 3rd Grade Teacher, Special Education Instructional Aide, a Nursery Coordinator, a Preschool Teacher, a Substitute Teacher, and several long term substitute positions.  Her overall efforts were recognized when she received the “Outstanding Substitute of the Year” award for Hillside for 2014.
Additionally, as the mother of three girls (9th, 8th, and 4th graders), she has received an incredible amount of hands on experience with the development of children.
She loves to travel.  She has traveled to several US states, Canada, Mexico, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, German, Netherlands, Belgium, and the UK.
As for hobbies and interests, she spends most of her time outdoors.  She loves to run, hike, bike, swim and visit historical places.
Mrs. Smith believes that communication is the key to having a great classroom environment, and she is looking forward to teaching your child!
