    Welcome to third grade!
My name is Janie Lyman.  I am excited to be your teacher this year.  I am married to Kevin Lyman and together we have 4 children - Natalie (20), Maeve (18), Danny (17) and Luke (15) and a sweet black lab named Angus and new puppy!  We  live in Berryville, Va.  I grew up in Loudoun and graduated from Loudoun Co. Public Schools, then attended Shepherd College.  I started my teaching career in Loudoun County at Lincoln Elementary.  This is my 19th year of teaching.  It is my 13th year in Loudoun and my fifth year at Round Hill.

Third grade is an amazing year of learning and growing.  Students become more independent and responsible this year.  3rd grade students balance independence with collaborative group learning.  Students will strengthen reading strategies and become more confident independent readers.  Students will learn multiplication/division facts, create stories in Writer's Workshop, explore ancient civilizations, identify and create simple machines, use the scientific method and SO much MORE!  We are excited to be a Code to the Future School as we integrate computer science into our 3rd grade curriculum.

Please support your child's academic growth by reading daily and practicing basic math facts.
Be sure to check out the 3rd grade Weekly News/Blog for what's happening weekly.  It's going to be a great year in 3rd grade at Round Hill Elementary.  Be sure to click my Twitter link to see what's happening daily in our classroom.  I am looking forward to an exciting year of growing and learning together!
