Hello Kindergarten students and families! My name is Ms. Krauss and I'm so excited to be back for my ninth year at Liberty Elementary! I grew up in Maryland and was a swim coach, which helped me realize my passion for teaching. I attended the College of William & Mary to earn my master's degree in elementary education and have continued to love both coaching and teaching!

I have found my way back to coaching here in Virginia and have coached both swimming and soccer in the area. In the spring, you can find me on the soccer field at Freedom High School coaching the JV Girls soccer team. In the summer I coach the South Riding Stingrays swim team.

When I'm not in the classroom or coaching, I enjoy reading, running, and going to the beach. I cannot wait to meet you all and hear about your summers! We are going to have tons of fun this year and learn so much!

This is me on my first day of Kindergarten!

Hello! My name is Sarah Newland and I am excited to be a part of the Liberty Kindergarten Team as Ms. Krauss’ teaching assistant.

I have worked in education for over 20 years- kids are my passion! I have a BA in Political Science and International Relations and an MA in Elementary Education: Teaching and Curriculum. I worked for Fairfax County Schools for 7 years and then took some time to be a stay-at-home mom and raise my 4 children (2 girls and 2 boys). I was very active in their schools, sports, and activities. I then spent the last 15 years teaching at St. David’s Preschool in Ashburn before coming to LCPS and Liberty Elementary.

When I am not in the classroom I love to run, teach cycling, and play with my dog, Lily! I also am an avid reader, enjoy movies, the beach, and being with my family.
