Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Marlene Santos
I am thrilled to begin my sixth year at Trailside and my 20th year in education. I am in awe of how quickly time passes. As I reflect over my journey of more than two decades in education, I am flooded with warm memories as well as a multitude of life changing events, including but not limited to: Introducing SOL testing, Introducing Block Scheduling, 9/11, DC Sniper, Computers in the Classroom, Bring Your Own Technology, One to One Device, and now the Covid 19 Pandemic. Each of these events brought with it fear and uncertainty but I chose to and continue to strive to remain, calm, open-minded and positive. Please know that I am devoted to supporting our students, staff and community through any and all challenges that come our way.
My journey to Middle School Education began at Radford University where I earned a Bachelor’s of Science, focusing on the Middle School Learner. I continued my quest for learning at George Mason University where I earned a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction (Integrating Technology into Education) as well as a Masters of Education in Education Leadership.
The 20 years I have spent in Middle School Education include teaching Math, Reading, Language Arts, and Social Studies. Additionally, I have been a Technology Resource Teacher and a Dean. All of these experiences helped me grow professionally and personally.
I live in Ashburn with my husband of 22 years, our three beautiful daughters, my father and his dog Harley as well as our Boxer, Buddy. We live an active life centered around our daughters’ activities. When I am not cheering on my girls at softball, soccer and dance, I am rooting for the amazing Pittsburgh Steelers! The moment you step into my office, it is obvious that I am an avid Steeler fan.
I am looking forward to. Please know that I am happy to help you and your student with any questions or concerns you may have. Feel free to contact me at 571-252-280 or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
