I am excited to join the ELL team at J. L. Simpson Middle School! I will be teaching ELL Math, Science, and English this year. I earned my teaching certification through the career switcher program at Northern Virginia Community College. I previously worked as a software developer and system analyst. I received a degree in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania . I currently live in Lovettsville, VA with my husband and two boys, Michael and Joshua, who currently attend Loudoun County Schools. My hobbies include spending time outdoors (hiking, camping, kayaking), playing the piano, gardening, reading, and spending time with my family.
The ELL Team
The ELL staff consists of two full time teachers, Mrs. Costic and Mrs. DiStefano. The program includes over forty students from five continents: North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Students hail from the United States, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Colombia, Mexico, Bolivia, Peru, the Philippines, Norway, Cameroon, Rwanda, Congo, Vietnam, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, and India. Eleven different languages are represented: Spanish, French, Arabic, Vietnamese, Urdu, Dutch, Punjabi, Hindi, Lebanese, Tagalog, and Farsi. Our goal is to help the children function effectively in the United States and become successful students while maintaining their own cultural heritage.
Please check your child's course information on the Phoenix website to find out what assignments and assessments they have due. Your child should also be writing homework assignments and due dates in his or her agenda.
