Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Barnett

Hi, my name is Michelle Barnett. This is my 30th year teaching and my fifteenth year teaching in Loudoun County Public Schools. I love working with English Learners and watching them develop their language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. I understand the process of learning another language as I learned to speak German while living abroad and my children are also bilingual.

I received two Master's Degrees from George Mason University, one in Curriculum and Instruction with a Concentration in International Education ESOL and another in School Leadership. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a Concentration in Mathematics from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. I am also a Goethe Institute Scholarship recipient. Originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, I have taught in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, and Virginia. In Germany, I worked as an English Laboratory teacher for NATO for six years. In summer, I work to support the LCPS Newcomer Program at the high school level. It is especially rewarding as a language teacher when newcomers begin to feel comfortable expressing their thoughts aloud and in writing in English.

I have three children who graduated from Loudoun County Public Schools. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities, visiting historic sites and traveling. l believe that the love of reading unlocks the doors to learning. I work to find the best methods for each student which are the key to helping them achieve their full potential.
