Welcome to Mr. Powell's Fourth Grade Class
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from James Madison in 2003.  After college, my dream was to work in sports and I accomplished this in both Philadelphia and Washington, DC.  After a few years of working for various sports organizations in the DC Metro area, I started my own website, and began working with the NBA as a writer.  While this was extremely rewarding, I knew it was not what I was meant to do.
Long story short, after marrying a teacher in 2012, I realized that I was meant to be an educator.  I decided to enroll in graduate school in 2013 and I graduated with my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education at Marymount University.  I currently live in Ashburn with my wife, Ashley who teaches second grade at Discovery Elementary. We have two children, Charlotte (4) and Noah (2) and a yellow lab named Zooey. In my free time I enjoy being outdoors, gardening, spending time with my family, and watching and playing sports (The Powells are all big Caps, Wizards and Nats fans)!
In my third year at BTES, my goal is to strive to share my experience and talents with your children in order to help them form a deeper connection with their world, develop a passion for learning, and reach their highest potential.  I am grateful for the opportunity to work with this community, and very much look forward to the experience.  It's going to be a great year on the "Trail"!
