Virginia IS horse country! We are representing the second Northern Virginia Public High School equestrian team. We will offer John Champe High School riders the opportunity to compete in the hunt seat arena with other schools in the surrounding area. They will have an opportunity to be recognized by colleges, feel a connection with their school and other students as well as continue growth in a sport they already love. Our goal is to make every rider a better rider, leader, student, and ultimately contributing responsible adult. We are in the process of building a new indoor facility at Ohana Equestrian Preserve in Aldie Virginia. It is convenient to John Champe High School, and riders would be able to utilize the school bus transportation if necessary. The facility currently accommodates outdoor riding with excellent footing and the indoor is expected to be completed in December. We will offer a two day a week, one hour, riding program for two seasons, fall and winter. Shows will be chosen once the team is established. All meetings and activities will be held at Ohana Equestrian Preserve and Hunts End Stables.

About the coach: Courtney Putz is a rider, coach and trainer. She was raised on an Arabian breeding farm. She has been riding and training horses her entire life and currently competes in the Eventing discipline. She has been teaching for about six years and has discovered that teaching is her passion. She encourages riders to learn every facet of the horse world and always challenges them to push to the next level. She is extremely excited to launch this program and looking forward to a fantastic year with John Champe High School.

About the Sponsor/Assistant Coach: Stephanie started riding when she was in 9th grade. She took lessons through high school and in college, began teaching riding lessons over the summers at a girls sleep-away camp. After school, she moved to Houston, TX where she started her career as an English teacher, but she also continued riding and showing in local shows while also teaching lessons based in hunt seat equitation. This summer, Stephanie moved to Loudoun County and will start her first year as a 10th grade English teacher at John Champe. She is excited to be helping out with the team and looks forward to an exciting year.
