Gardening provides students with a dynamic environment to
observe, discover, experiment, nurture and learn.
TEN RAISED VEGETABLE BEDSTeachers use these vegetable beds to provide Project Based Learning, as well as hands-on lessons in science, math, language arts, nutrition and community involvement. Currently, the food we grow and harvest is donated to Tree of Life Food Pantry in Purcellville.If you would like some ideas for gardening at home, there are many great resources at the public library. REGISTERED & CERTIFIED MONARCH WAY-STATION (a.k.a. Butterfly Garden)
A Monarch Waystation provides the milkweed, nectar plants and shelter that is necessary for monarch butterflies to lay their eggs and feed their baby caterpillars before starting their migration to/from their Mexican overwintering grounds.
Some of our teachers grow and release monarch butterflies in our Monarch Waystation. Students observe the Monarch's amazing transformation from egg, caterpillar (larva), chrysalis to the delicate, yet resilient butterfly and also learn to identify the plants in our garden that support monarchs through-out their lifecycle.If you would like to learn more about Monarch Butterflies at home, you may like:
