Welcome to the 2016-17 School Year! My name is Jill Broaddus and I am beginning my 4th year here as your principal. Prior to joining the MTV Staff I spent 11 year at Cool Spring Elementary in Leesburg as an administrator (3 years as AP and 7 as principal). Before going into administration I was a teacher in Frederick County, VA. I was a middle school math teacher for 6 years and a 4th grade teacher for 4 years.
I grew up in Erie, PA the youngest of 7 children. I have to say that I really never enjoyed school when I was young, and at times struggled with my academics. I think I decided early on that I wanted to go into education to make school a better place. To this day I strive to create a school where all students, staff and parents enjoy walking into each day. I feel it is important for students to feel safe and welcome in their classrooms, and feel comfortable taking risks and going that extra mile when needed. Elementary is the foundation for a lifelong of learning. We have the opportunity as elementary teachers and staff to create a strong foundation where students will enjoy learning and want to continue their education for years. My father always told me “No one can take away your education, they can take away your car, your house and other possessions, but once you are educated it stays with your forever.” My goal is spread that message and create a strong educational foundation for all who walk through our doors!
This year at Mountain View we are “Choosing Kind”. The entire staff read the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio over the summer. I encourage you to read the book as well and learn more about kindness from the lessons throughout the book. All of our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will reading the book this year with their teachers and discuss the life lessons learned, as well as how to be kind to others no matter how hard it can be at times. I hope you will join us in our reading and our acts of kindness.
