Mr. Harty

My name is Mark Harty and I will be teaching AP Biology and Conceptual Physics this year.  I have an extensive science background starting with my undergraduate work in Biology, Psychology, and Theater at Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin. I worked for several years at the Massachussettes General Hospital's Transplant Biology Research Center, in both the main downtown Boston campus and the Charlestown Navy Yard Campus.  From there I went on to graduate work at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in the Program in Neuroscience, Psychology, and Kinesiology Departments.  While at IU I co-taught courses in Neuroanatomy at both the Medical and Optometry Schools as well as freshman level courses in Psychology. I then moved east, working at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University in the research wing of the Pediatric Surgery unit.  After several years, family concerns led me to become a stay-at-home dad for several years.  Once those concerns were attended to, I sought a new career in teaching.  I worked for several years in the Special Education department in the Killingly Public School system, then, following my wife's job transfer to the DC area, I began teaching at Broad Run and have been here for 4 years.

I will be using Google Classroom this year and will be providing information, both during the Open House and through ParentVue, to link you to your students account so you can follow their progress throughout the year.
