• Welcome to 7th Grade Life Science with Mr. Payton!!

The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.
    ~ Dorothy Parker

Welcome to Life Science, where curiosity drives our desire to see and understand the world around us! Have you ever wondered why birds CONSTANTLY wake you up in the morning with their chirping and singing? Or asked yourself why some twins are identical and some are not? Or even begged to know why you have to get that horrible flu shot EVERY SINGLE YEAR? These are the kinds of questions that you will get to explore this year as we investigate a wide range of biological concepts - from complex animal behaviors to population genetics and mutation!

Mr. Payton has taught in Loudoun County for the past eight years and is excited to return to J. Michael Lunsford Middle School!!! This is Mr. Payton's 6th year teaching Life Science! He has also previously taught 6th grade science here at JML. He has earned Bachelor of Science degrees in both Biology and Biochemistry, with a minor in Chemistry, from Virginia Tech and a Master of Education degree in Secondary Education from George Washington University. He has previously taught 6th grade science, 7th grade Life Science, Biology, and Environmental Science. Prior to becoming a teacher, Mr. Payton worked as a Research Scientist for two biotechnology firms.

Mr. Payton is looking forward to a fun and exciting year as we explore the wonders of Science!
