I love being a part of the admin team at Smart’s Mill Middle School and the Leesburg community.  Mavericks are great kids who make everyday a great time for me.  Although you may not believe it, I enjoy lunch duty.  It's a time when I can talk with kids and get to know them.

My American hero is Frederick Douglass because he came to understand the power of literacy and education.  I too have a passion for education and enjoy working with students and families.  I am especially inspired by the kids during their middle school years and helping them develop into confident teens and lifelong learners.

I am originally from Detroit, Michigan.  I earned a bachelor’s degree in Education with a minor in Spanish from Howard University.   I’m still using the skills I learned in there and have become fluent in Spanish.   I continued my education at American University and earned a master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language.  I later earned an additional master’s in Education Administration from the University of Phoenix.  I was a classroom teacher for 11 years, teaching English to adults and children from all over the world.  I came to Sterling Middle School in Loudoun County as an EL teacher in 2005.  After deciding to leave the classroom and become an administrator, I moved to Seneca Ridge Middle School.  I was a dean and assistant principal there for 3 years in each position.

I have 2 children.  My 13 year old is a Raven at River Bend Middle School where she enjoys being a member of the Orchestra.  My 7 year old is a Horizon Elementary School Comet.  The kids are involved in dance and fencing.  We spend our family time hiking, playing games, watching movies, and having fun with family and friends.
