Welcome to Music

  • "The music room is a place where creativity, community, and diversity are embraced and encouraged. Our mission is to ensure that every student leaves our room knowing their voice matters, and that they are an essential part of our ensemble. We hope to encourage life-long lovers, appreciators, and engagers of music."

We are thrilled to be your music teachers as you embark on your flight at Cardinal Ridge Elementary School! CRE Students in grades K through 5 meet with their music teachers twice a week. Each music instructional time is 30 minutes. Through performing, creating, responding, and connecting,  students will develop their music skills in the following areas: rhythm, melody, harmony, history, form and expression, movement, orchestral and world instruments, multicultural music and literature. If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year please do not hesitate to contact us: Alexys Bush and Brianna Ornstein.

    Swoop Troop

This school year is all about rebuilding, and we are very excited about rebuilding our Swoop Troop at Cardinal Ridge Elementary. Swoop Troop is a choral ensemble for scholars in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Scholars need no prior music or vocal training, and no audition is required. Swoop Troop provides a safe and welcoming environment for scholars to develop their voice and learn musicianship, diction, theory, solfege, and musical literacy. Additionally, Swoop Troop is a service ensemble and scholars in this group will be performing at various school-wide and community-wide events.

This year, Swoop Troop will be an After School Club through PTO and the group will have rehearsals on Mondays and Tuesdays from 2:30 to 3:30pm. The cost for each day is $55. Swoop Troop is ONE ensemble, but we are offering it on both days to ensure all scholars who wish to be a part of this honor choir ensemble are able to attend. During both rehearsals we will have different lessons and focus on different concepts, but practice the same music. It is highly recommended that scholars can attend both after rehearsals to improve their music and vocal training, but it is not required.

We look forward to musically serving our school and community! Please let us know if you have any questions. If your scholar would like to be a part of Swoop Troop, but is unable to make at least one rehearsal on Monday or Tuesday, please email Ms. Ornstein (brianna.ornstein@lcps.org) or Ms. Bush (alexys.bush@lcps.org), or have the scholar speak with us in person.
