    The application deadline for the 8th grade students applying to the Academy of Science and/or Academy of Engineerijng and Technology is TOMORROW, September 21 at NOON.  No applications will be accepted after this time.  See Mr. White if you have questions or concerns.

     

    Are you interested in auditioning for Jazz Band? If you are a 7th or 8th grader currently enrolled in Band, Strings, Guitar or Chorus, you are eligible to try-out for the Riverhawk Jazz Band. The jazz band meets on Wednesdays after school from 3:30-4:30pm. Please see Mrs. Robblee in the band room for audition music and to sign up for an audition. Auditions are next Wednesday and Thursday after school.

     

    Do you love to dance and perform?   On Thursday, Sept 21st, Ms. Larkins will hold an interest and information meeting in the AUX gym at 3:30 for the first Belmont Ridge Dance Team. Find out about the opportunity to learn choreographed routines and perform for multiple audiences throughout the year. Please note, you must provide your own transportation home after the meeting on Thursday. The meeting will conclude at 4:15. Any questions, see Ms. Larkins.

     

    The deadline for the Yearbook Club Cover Contest is fast approaching! You have just over a week until the deadline, so make sure to get those submissions to your Art teacher, Homeroom teacher, or Mrs. Kauffman in C-5. You can find submission guidelines on the Belmont Ridge’s website. Click Clubs and then Yearbook.

     

    It’s Bright Life Buddies Spirit night at Paisano’s Pizza tomorrow - All day!!  Bright Life Buddies will receive 20% of the order when you mention Belmont Spirit Day - including deliveries!

     

    This Friday, the Riverside Rams have a home game.  Join members of Belmont Ridge and Riverside SCA in a Spirit Day!  The theme for Friday is Red, White and Blue.  Belmont’s SCA hopes to see lots of red, white and blue in our hallways and at the game Friday night.  To find out more about Belmont’s SCA, please contact Mrs. Dosik in room B17.

    6th grade Band students: If you would like a little extra help on your instrument, come to our After School Help Session today from 3:30-4:30pm in the Band room. Bring your instrument and your book and we will help you get more comfortable playing your new instrument.

    The Hurricane Harvey Clothing Donation Drive is up and running- please donate clothing, toys, and shoes to the  bins outside the house offices or the main office. All donations will go to the Red Cross in Houston.

    Come join the Belmont Ridge Science Olympiad team!  You’ll have the opportunity to compete against other schools in several different science events.  Last year the Belmont Ridge team made it to the state competition at the University of Virginia.     On Wednesday, September 13th, there will be an interest meeting for SCA.  SCA stands for Student Council Association.  The SCA plans Spirit Weeks and community service opportunities throughout the school year and is a great way to get involved in student centered activities.  There will be two interest meetings on Wednesday, September 13th -  one at 7:40am and one right after school n -  in RM B17.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Dosik in RM B17.

Stay tuned- The fall season of Riverhawk Running is coming September 11! We meet on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3:30-4:30, and train to run a 5K race.     Attention eighth graders! The library is looking for volunteers from 8th grade who can help throughout the year in the library. If you are interested in this position, pick up a Library Volunteer Interest form from Mrs. Lovisek or the Library staff. The last day for turning in the completed interest forms is   Wednesday, September 29th

    •        Students must maintain good academic standing and attendance throughout the school year!
    •        Students can earn community service hours!

    The National Book Festival will take place tomorrow, at the Walter E.Washington Convention Center in D.C. The Library of Congress  or Washington Post homepages  have more information.  Great authors, including Kwame Alexander and Kate DiCamillo, and Gene Yang.  Every day is a great day for reading!

In the club, we do TJ test preparation, work on logic problems, and launch alka seltzer rockets among other things. We start meeting next Tuesday morning at 7:45 in A 12.
