Degrees and Certifications:
It is with great enthusiasm that Mrs. Kruse welcomes your children to her class. She is very excited to begin her fifth year at Discovery. Previously she taught both first and second grades at Cedar Lane Elementary. She has a B.A. in English from the University of Iowa and an M.A. in English from Columbia University and an M.A. in Teaching from George Mason University. She is an passionate learner and strives to continue to learn new things. Her current obsession is butterflies!
Mrs. Kruse is trained in Responsive Classroom and she encourages students to take responsibility for the behavior choices they make and to see mistakes as learning opportunities. In reading, writing and math workshops students learn by setting personal goals and celebrating milestones and successes. She strives to create a student-centered learning environment where students build their knowledge through hands-on learning experiences. She uses various types of technology to enhance student learning.
Mrs. Kruse grew up in Iowa but moved many times as an adult. She spent seven years living overseas in Germany and Belgium. She has moved ten times and is happy that Virginia has been her home for the past fourteen years. She enjoys gardening, traveling, reading, and hiking with her husband and big golden retriever, Marigold.
Mrs. Kruse looks forward to a wonderful year filled with fun and engaging learning activities which will help her students learn and grow!
