Happy New School Year!!
My name is Mr. Beczkiewicz but please feel free to call me Mr. 'B'.
This is my 5th year at Trailside and I’m very excited about all the upcoming opportunities for our students and staff this year is offering. New technology, new courses and lots of new faces. I love change, embrace challenges and encourage my students to do the same.
This year I am teaching Grade 7 Tech Ed ‘Introduction to Technology’ and a new course ‘Robot Design’ for Grade 8. I will also continue to sponsor the TMS VEX Robotics club for the 4 year in a row.
Introduction to Technology (aka Tech Ed 7): Students are exposed to a wide variety of technologies using STEM based, hand-on modules and projects. The technology education program provides experiences that lead to the development of technologically literate people and problem-solving skills.
STEM modules and projects are utilized throughout the semester. Modules are self-directed and consist of 7 sessions with each session containing audio and video instruction, quizzes and experiments. Student typically work in pairs; however, each student is responsible for monitoring their progress and success for each session.
Students will also participate in challenge projects: Egg Recovery Vehicle, Bottle Rockets, Nickle Hockey, Air powered dragsters, and more. These hands-on projects that teach principles of product design and follow the Engineering Design Process.
Robot Design (Grade 8): This is a high school credit class and is being offered for the first time. Students will learn the fundamentals of engineering and put them into practice to design and build a VEX Robot. Students will learn about the Engineering Design Cycle, basic electronics, control systems, mechanical systems, microprocessor programming, and system design.
Students will work in teams of three to design and build a VEX robot to complete a series of challenges.
TMS VEX Robotics Club: Big changes have been made to the TMS VEX Robotics club this year in order better meet the needs of our students. The club will include JV and Varsity teams. JV teams are teacher led and intended for 6th grade students or students with no prior robotics experience. JV team meetings align with the normal school club-meeting schedule on Wednesdays afternoons. Varsity teams are intended for 7th and 8th grade or students with prior robotics experience. Varsity teams are coached by parents and meet at home at a time that is convenient for the team. Parents are trained/mentored by Mr. Beczkiewicz through evening/weekend workshops.
Please make sure to check out my TMS VEX Club page on my school web-site for the latest information. TMS VEX Club
