Welcome to Trailside Everyone!
I am so excited to begin my 6th year with Trailside Middle School. I will be taking on a new role providing support and assisance to students and families with special needs. I have a background as a social worker providing case management in the community. In that capacity I worked with at risk youth and adults diagnosed with intellectual disabilities, mental health, and/or substance abuse issues/concerns to obtain needed services in the community. I earned by bachelor's degree in social work from George Mason University. I began my journey as a school counselor by earning my Master's degree in School Counseling from Virginia Tech and then opening TMS back in 2014. I can say that I am working in my dream job as a school counselor and helping the children and families at Trailside. One of the best parts of my work is helping others to realize his or her own uniqueness, potential, and passion as they plan for the future or toward achiving personal goals.
As a military dependent growing up (or what we lovingly referred to as being an "Army Brat"), I found a fondness for traveling. I love to see, learn about, and discover new place and then to meet new people along the way. I have lived in a variety of locals, including Germany, Panama, and most recently in Bahrain. My extended family continues to live in Indiana, so you could say that part of my heart resides in Indiana too. (GO COLTS!!!) I remain very close with my father and do my best to visit Indiana to see him and others in my extended family. My family and I have made Loudoun County our home. We enjoy everything that Northern Virginia and the DC area have to offer from the museums, to concerts, and even the gaming events (Yay for AwesomeCon). At TMS I also support the TableTop Gaming Club during our seasonal activities. My family and I love a good tabletop game such as Exploding Kittens, Unstable Unicorns, Lama's Unleashed, Ticket to Ride, Dice Throne and so on, I could keep going but you get the idea. In my spare time, when I am not throwing the dice or laying down my cards, I am a very creative individual. I enjoy baking in my kitchen, crocheting with my kids, or even winding down with a bit of coloring mandalas. But, more than anything, I love spending time with my family and friends.
I look forward to working with everyone this upcoming school year. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns about this school year. Let's work together to make this the most successful school year yet.
" As human beings, our job in life is to help people realize how rare and valuable each one of us really is, that each of us has something that no one else has - or ever will have - something inside that is unique to all time. It's our job to encourage each other to discover that uniqueness and to provide ways of developing its expression."
