Welcome to music! We teach life skills through the art of making music.
Music is the combination of all the school subjects: Math, Science, History, Social Studies, Languages, & Physical Education. Along with developing empathy & compassion, working with people and learning to always put forth a good effort, studying the fine arts is a valuable endeavor.
Music has always been a part of my life and my household. After graduating from Shenandoah College & Conservatory of Music in Winchester, VA, I played clarinet & saxophone in the Air Force throughout New England & Europe. After my enlistment, I taught music in Fairfax County. While teaching at Robinson Secondary, I had the opportunity to travel with & conduct bands in competition and exhibition from Florida to Chicago. During this time I also received my Masters in Music (Conducting) from George Mason University.
My non-musical interests include my family (wife, 3 kids, 1 dog), reading, traveling, swimming, and biking.
The best part of learning & teaching is when the 'light comes on' in a student's eyes; the moment when the connection is made that hard work can return great rewards. My job as a teacher is to help each student find their genius.
I look forward to seeing you this fall.
