Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Gillian Smith

This is my 15th year of teaching art and I still love every day of it.  I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Arts Education from VCU.

Loudoun County has always valued the arts in their schools and community.  This shows in our environment and in our children.  Art is everywhere here and my job is to bring as much art experiences that I can to our students here at Trailside.  I make it a point to provide a very well rounded art curriculum so that everyone may succeed.  It is important that my students feel like they can take risks, make mistakes, and move forward.  Without that most of the world’s famous art works would simply not exist.

My goal is to create an open environment in which my students feel at ease.  An open mind makes better art.   I am here as a guide to lead them and make sure that they feel comfortable enough to be creative.

When I am not at Trailside I live in Lovettsville on the other end of Loudoun County.  I have a small farm homestead with some pet chickens and pigs who love to eat!  I like to camp with my family and of course, I like to make ART!
