Ms. Mary Hughes Reid
Each year's class sets itself apart from the others in some special way. There is so much to learn and discover during the 4th grade year. This will be an extraordinary year for all of us. It is my pleasure and privilege to teach and ask questions, while igniting in students a desire to know and to create.
I hold an Associate of Arts degree from St. Mary's College (now St. Mary's School, Raleigh, NC), a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from James Madison University (Harrisonburg, VA), and a Master of Science in Education from Shenandoah University (Winchester, VA). I also attended the Aegean School of Classical Studies and Philosophy (Paros, Cyclades, Greece). There is nothing like experiencing the socratic method of teaching on the shore of the Aegean Sea. A highlight of that trip was climbing Mt. Olympus. When I am not working, I love reading, walking, exploring new places, continuing my education, thinking visually, and spending time with my family. My fiancé and I live in Leesburg. I have two children. My daughter, Ashley, is a graduate of Chatham University (Pittsburgh, PA), and currently lives in Germany with her family. My son, Adam, graduated from Northeastern University (Boston, Mass.), and lives and works in the Boston area.
This year, I bet many of our 4th graders will connect to their world, understand more about themselves, and discover new Virginia destinations they wish to visit with their families. We do live in a most remarkable place.
