Welcome 4th Grade Students and Families!
I am proud to be starting my eighth school-year teaching 4th grade at Buffalo Trail Elementary. While THIS year will truly be unlike any other, every year a diverse group of students comes together and creates its own cool class community. Every year, it is a privilege to watch and nurture each group and to witness student discoveries, challenges met, and achievements. There is so much this age group is capable of!
I grew up outside of Philadelphia, PA, spent years in North Carolina, Virginia, Southern California, and then moved back to Virginia. My education includes an AA degree from St. Mary’s College (Raleigh, NC), a BFA in Graphic Design from James Madison University (Harrisonburg, VA), and a MS Ed from Shenandoah University (Winchester, VA).
I have two grown children. My daughter and daughter-in-law are relocating from Germany back to the States this fall. Ashley and Kelsey are graduates of Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. My son and future daughter-in-law live and work outside of Boston. Adam and Laura are graduates of Northeastern University in Boston, MA. My fiancé and I live in Leesburg.
We have a big year of growth ahead of us. None of us have been through anything like this before and as a class, we will spend time quelling fears, appreciating our unique gifts, and supporting each other. I am less focused on students getting something correct. But, I am more interested in students trying something new, observing, adjusting, and trying again. We will be reading and writing a lot across all subjects. Communication is key and (students) we want to know what you think, feel, question, and say.
I look forward to getting to know each remarkable student. The biggest challenges can breed the biggest opportunities. Let’s get this standout year started!
