The Cedar Lane Elementary School library is a centrally located learning hub. It is a vibrant place where staff, students, and the community at large feel welcome. The library is in use constantly for teaching and learning, for browsing, for meeting, for reading, and for using technology. It is the place where staff and students go whenever they need information. They are happily assisted when seeking information, and are taught skills that will help them become independent seekers and consumers of information. Books in any format (print or digital) and reading are highlighted in the CLES library, and students – indeed the entire school community – are genuinely excited about all the CLES library has to offer. The CLES library is a true learning commons where the atmosphere is inviting and collaborative, and where student achievement is celebrated.
The mission of the CLES library program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information so as to empower them to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. These goals are achieved through innovative activities, balanced resources, a physical space that allows for flexible and equitable access to materials, high quality collaborative instruction, and through constant evaluation and refinement of the library program as a whole.
