Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Michael James Ponza
Parents and students, it is with great pleasure I welcome you all into our 4th grade classroom, here at Discovery Elementary School. Over my 7 years of instructing students, I have learned that teaching and learning are continuously evolving, and I push myself to evolve with it. That is why it is with great excitement that I am able to join you and your children into their new home for the next 9 months!
Some of you may recognize me from my days teaching 2nd grade here in Discovery. If not here is some information about me.
Prior to my move to Virginia, I've lived in many states. I was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan (Go Wolverines!) and moved to California, where my parents are from. I moved to New Jersey at the age of 3. I grew up in New Jersey, outside of Princeton where I attended elementary school, before moving to the suburbs of Philadelphia, where I attended Pennsbury High School (Go Falcons!). I later enrolled in Elementary Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the suburbs of Pittsburgh. Upon graduation I was employed by Lizemore Elementary School in Wild, and Wonderful West Virginia. I taught 3rd grade for 3 years before moving to Ashburn, Virginia to teach at Discovery Elementary School. I taught 2nd grade for 2 years, and this will be my second year in 4th grade. Add that with my two years of 2nd grade and I have taught for 7 years, beginning my 8th.
This past winter, December 10th 2016 I was married to my loving wife Heather.
I love teaching. There is no greater joy than bringing a smile to child's face.
I am truly excited to be a member of the great school that is Discovery Elementary School. We have a great opportunity to continue to do something great together in our community. Let's do it!
